Well Dweller Guide

Well Dweller tips and FAQ

Day-one tips and the questions players are actually asking on Steam's discussion board, answered from the store page, launch reviews and the demo-era forums. Last verified Sep 22, 2026 (launch day).

Quick tips

  1. Read the flame, not a bar. Your matchstick's fire is your health — ember means disengage.
  2. Healing is also a buff. Oil vial heals temporarily raise attack strength; heal before a damage window, not mid-panic only.
  3. Never fear dying with money. Currency is kept on death — only time is lost.
  4. Mark before you leave. New ability unlocked? Drop a custom map marker on the wall or door it opens.
  5. Tents are close. Check around corners near bosses — reviewers confirm tents are frequent at launch.
  6. Slide is defense. The slide's invincibility frames work on hazards and enemy attacks alike.
  7. Pick easy if the demo frustrated you. Easy/normal/hard are all here, plus "playable without timed input".

FAQ

Does my demo save transfer to the full game?

Not confirmed at launch. This is an active launch-week discussion thread with no official answer attached yet. Demo-era progress was built on a separate demo app, so the safe assumption is to start fresh and watch the Steam announcements page for a statement.

Is Well Dweller locked to 60 fps?

Players are discussing a 60 fps cap in the launch threads (one thread sits at 13 replies), and reviewers consistently describe the game as running at a smooth, consistent 60. There is no confirmed in-game framerate unlock option at launch; treat 60 as the designed target.

My frames drop in crowded rooms — what helps?

Demo-era reports mention fps dips in enemy rooms and during the demo boss fight. Practical mitigations reported by players: close background capture software, and switch to borderless/windowed fullscreen if fullscreen misbehaves on your setup. A Day-1 patch response is likely if the reports persist — the developer shipped four demo updates between April and June, so the patch cadence is proven.

Which languages are supported?

Ten at launch: English, French, German, Spanish (Spain), Portuguese-Brazil, Russian, Simplified Chinese, Japanese, Korean and Traditional Chinese. Polish and Turkish are not in the list — that is the honest answer to the two most-asked language threads on the forum.

How hard is it?

Reviews call it fairly balanced: bosses require pattern learning but feel fair, and easy mode is a real option. The demo's boss difficulty generated an 18-reply "Boss fights are too hard" thread, but that was the demo build with its checkpoint layout — the full game is praised for frequent tents.

How long is Well Dweller?

Developer Kyle Thompson's estimate: 10–14 hours for a standard playthrough, across 15 biomes with 13 bosses. Completionist runs with trials and no-hit challenges will run longer.

What are the accessibility options?

Adjustable difficulty, playable without timed input, keyboard-only option, camera comfort, custom volume controls, and full controller support (DualShock and DualSense listed).

Is there a demo?

Yes — a separate Steam demo (app 4540890) ran from April 2026 through launch with four updates, ending at v1.031. It was a Next Fest participant in June.
